Save your gas money - stay home!

Water gardening is wonderful for relaxation at home, entertaining at home, and adding value to your home. Taking care of your water garden burns calories, calms you (if you let it), keeps your mind active, and helps you socially (because you have to talk to others about what is going on with your pond). What a deal! Buying fish and/or plants, accents, pottery, and/or statuary for your yard lasts a lot longer than a gallon of gas spent for going to the lake.

Rains like the ones we have had for the past few weeks can create a lot of murkiness in your pond, but RapiClear or a like product will help to clear that up in no time. The fluctuations in water temperature, fish waking up hungry, and plants not yet at their full potential are causing string algae to bloom profusely. Keep AlgaeOff, Algae-Fix or Algaway on hand to fight the bloom now and for maintenance purposes during the up and coming hot summer. In fact it is a good idea (especially with the gasoline prices) to have several treatment/preventive products on hand to better prepare your pond for the season. We at the store are just a phone call away to help you with your pond difficulties and if you have basic products on hand you will be ready to start treatment immediately. We will have a list of “must haves” in the store for your information.

Now to the fun stuff! Our birding section has been a success. We have some unique bird feeders that are selling well at affordable prices. We have a new shipment of beautiful pottery. Our gift item section and candle section are continually getting depleted which puts me back to shopping for great and special items for you. Tough job, but, as they say, someone has to do it. (What a great job!)

I have to brag about my grandchildren, Jaclyn and Josh. They are so good to help me with my pond. Jaclyn loves to work with the plants and landscaping and Josh takes care of the maintenance and cleaning. Josh, in fact, spent several hours after school cleaning the pond at North Rock Creek School and I am very proud. Children, when allowed, take pride in your landscaping projects and learn so much while they are doing it. When you come to the store, ask for pictures. I will have some of my pond as well some of my grandchildren.

The Koi of Water Gardening

Koi are perfect pets for water garden hobbyists. They are colorful, personable, and add entertainment for visitors. Feeding your fish can be very entertaining, especially during the summer season. Koi prefer a higher protein diet when water temperatures are above 70 degrees, which provides them with enough energy to grow and to be active. At most koi will grow around 4” per year. They can reach a maximum length of 24”-30”. The longest lived Koi on record lived to be 226 years old!
