Welcome Spring!! The winter was beautiful, the ponds - a winter wonderland in the snow, but the warmer weather is such a welcome relief! As the weather in Oklahoma is so predictable in its unpredictability, the winter weather came back causing us to have our Spring Super Build-a-Pond Day inside in our new training facility. The attendance was down but spirits were high. We cooked inside, ate inside, built a pond inside. We had door prizes every half hour with many of you going home with a treasure.

Now we are having a “second Spring” so to speak. At least it feels like it. The weather is nice again, the ground is muddy again, and, most of us have “spring hay fever” …again. So, because of our continued Spring, and because we have much to be thankful for, we are planning another “celebration” day at our May 26th class, “Disappearing Waterfall Build.” Come for the class beginning at 9:00 a.m. and stay for a hot dog at lunch. We will have more in-store specials and surely we will come up with a few more door prizes.
All the water plants that have come in are beautiful. The Japanese Koi are up for sale. You will be pleased with their color. Tropical plants will come in the middle of May…just to be sure winter is actually over.
The Microbe-Lift products and the pond vacuums have been a good seller this Spring. Clean out your ponds now, feed your filters and established plants. Check your fish load and if your pond can handle more, check out the good color and prices on our koi and goldfish. If your pond is so established that you cannot add plants and/or fish, then you must check out the statuary, pottery, iron benches and planters to accentuate your lovely pond. If you have not yet been to our new store, you are missing out on a great trip. Come see us!

Warmer temperatures, algae, and what you can do about them

As water temperatures continue to rise, one thing that every pond owner hates to see is the presence of string algae in their water garden. A lot of times this can be caused by having too heavy of a fish load in your pond. A good rule of thumb is one inch of fish for every 10 gallons of water in your pond. Water plants help shade the water, and compete with algae to absorb nutrients in the water. Water Lilies, Lotus, Water Hyacinth, and Water Lettuce all help shade the water and are available at Pond Pro Shop.

Every pond owner should always have Crystal Clear’s Algae-Off on hand.  Algae-Off is a string algae treatment that works on contact and is oxygen powered. Simply turn your pump off and sprinkle this product onto your waterfall and any problem areas in your pond. This product is also great for spring clean up or fall shut down, it will actually float leaves, small twigs, and other debris to the surface of your pond! It is also good to use Microbe-Lift PL to break down any debris in the pond water. Both these products are available at Pond Pro Shop.
